'The blackbird turdus merula (or lon dubh as gaeilge) is one of Ireland’s most widespread garden birds and found throughout the country.
They love to eat earthworms, berries and larger fruit such as apples, it is common to see these birds close to our homes and visiting bird tables. The blackbird is equally at home in a town park, suburban garden or the countryside.
The blackbird is known for its songs and calls, with a varied mix of low to high pitch songs and a number of alarm calls if approaching predators are spotted.'
