'Without words, the sound of the kettle going on the boil is an invitation to talk, to connect with another person. It is a reassuring sound that within minutes leads to a cup of tea.
I wonder if it is the most frequently asked question in Ireland “Would you like a cup of tea?”. It is sometimes hard to believe tea is native to Asia, it is so deeply rooted in the Irish psyche.
My linoprint depicts a striped cup, this was my grandmother’s striped cup.
I am reminded of tea leaves being spooned from an old tin box and into a waiting tea-pot. Once stewed, for just the right amount of time, the tea would be poured into this cup.
Perfect every time.
What i wouldn’t give for a cup of tea and a chance to talk to my grandmother again'
