Both Stephen and I studied with Berina at Belfast School of Art in the 1990's (too long ago). Berina has always been amazingly talented and her recent collections beautifully illustrate the west of Ireland, the rock pools, seascapes and rugged terrain. Berina Kelly is a consummate maker, each of her pieces are made by her own hands, beaten, hammered, cut - a truly authentic maker.

ABOUT

Born in Galway, on the west coast of Ireland, Berina lives 5 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, some of her earliest memories are of Summer days swimming, gathering shells and stones and exploring rock pools.

After studying to be a Goldsmith with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland Berina went on to finish her degree in Fine and Applied Art at the Belfast College of Art , gaining a first class honours degree.    She worked Nationally and Internationally with a number of Goldsmiths and set up her own workshop in Galway in 2000.

Berina designs and makes exhibition and collectable pieces in precious metals, using contemporary applications. Her diffusion collections blend elements of her work in sterling silver, for everyday wear.

Looking after your jewellery

It is recommended to remove all jewellery prior to showering swimming exercising gardening cleaning and sleeping. This should help in protecting your jewellery from scratches and chemicals.

We advise that you use warm soapy water to wash jewellery preferably leaving in a dish of non detergent soap to soak. You can use a very soft toothbrush to carefully remove any build up of sediment. In addition you should use a polishing cloth to shine sterling silver and gold items.

Oxidised silver jewellery goes through a specialised treatment to obtain the blackened colour and with time the colour may lighten naturally. Cloths, chemicals and rubbing will strip the oxidised finish so please use only cold water to wash. it is best to store sterling silver in an airtight bag or box to avoid naturally occurring oxidation.
